Burger & Lobster is a notable restaurant brand that specializes in — you guessed it — burgers and lobsters!

It was founded in 2011 in Mayfair, London. What began as a spark-of-the-moment idea is now an international chain with nine locations in London, and in New York, Singapore, Malaysia, Bangkok, Kuwait, and Qatar.

Burger & Lobster's brand of dining isn't the typical establishment you'd expect when you think of high-roller lobsters and gourmet burgers. It tends to be more casual and relaxed, despite their signature items being served on silver trays.

The Shanghai EDITION is hosting B&L at three outlets. Shanghai Tavern and Roof Garden is serving a full menu, and “The Hottest Stand,” a food truck at the entrance of the hotel is doing takeaway rolls and burgers.

Shanghai Tavern

The destination of choice is Shanghai Tavern.

On The Menu

B&L’s menu is straightforward — very little here that doesn’t pertain towards lobster and burgers.

There are The Originals, items that have been on the menu since day one, which include The Mayfair burger (¥158), Classic Lobster Roll (¥258), and Classic Whole Lobster (¥569). If you’re wondering, lobsters are from Canada and burgers are made with prime cut beef.

Their signature burger, The Mayfair, named after its founding location, is a six-ounce beef patty with house pickles, onion, tomato, lettuce, and house burger sauce on a sesame seed brioche bun. Patties are normally cooked to medium, however, you can request preferred doneness.

It’s a solid burger. The burger is juicy, and the tangy pickles and burger sauce makes it pop.

All main items come with fries and salad.

Lobsters are simply cooked, served either grilled or steamed to highlight the natural sweetness of the lobster.

Lobster rolls are served in a brioche bun filled to the brim with chunky lobster that has been tossed in their signature sauce and garnished with chives.

The bun is fluffy and buttery, and the chilled lobster is generous.

Any lobster main comes with their signature lemon and garlic butter sauce, a creamy and slightly tangy sauce that pairs well with the fleshy crustacean. To be honest, that sauce goes with everything!

Hot tip: don’t pour the sauce onto the lobster. (I learned that lesson.) Instead, dip pieces into the gravy boat. Any extra sauce is a great accompaniment for the fries.

There are multiple combos available, too:

B&L Combo (¥628) – The Mayfair and a whole lobster.

Combo For Two (¥768) – The mother-load of a whole lobster, The Mayfair, and lobster roll.

Shanghai Specials

Burger & Lobster also does regional specials for every country they open a branch in. For example, Malaysia has a Lobster Laksa, Singapore has a Nyonya Chili Lobster, and Bangkok a Khao Soi one.

For Shanghai, there’s a Dong Po Roll (¥138).

Dong Po Roll

The latter is made with braised pork belly, seasoned in the same fashion as dongpo rou with Shaoxing wine, soy sauce, ginger, and scallions. The sweet-savory fatty pork is stuffed into a buttered roll with pickled radish, carrots, fresh coriander, and spring onions.

Basque Pistachio Cheesecake (¥88) – Sweet and creamy baked pistachio cheesecake

Other items include starters, nearly all lobster-based like remoulade, mac & cheese, and croquettes, as well as other burgers, including the Atomic Smashed Burger, a double smash with jalapeño, and dessert.

Burger & Lobster Food Truck

As for food truck The Hottest Stand, dishes are grab-and-go format. Items are significantly more affordable, but some are also size adjusted. Mini lobster rolls (¥88), smashed burger (¥58), lobster lollipops (¥48) feature, and each item comes with a drink. The food truck is open from 11:30am to 8:30pm.

The eighth floor Roof Garden requires reservations at least one day in advance for the Burger & Lobster menu during the hot summer season. The menu is available from 4:30pm to 8pm at Roof Garden, and all-day at Shanghai Tavern.
