I'm Cooking Malaysian Food at Tomatito For One Night Only

I’m super excited to announce that I’ll be doing my first pop-up dinner at Tomatito on Wednesday, July 15!
Unbeknownst to many of you, I love to cook as much as I like to eat. When I get a breather, I steady myself with some good home cooked food. I’m not a chef. I just cook what I like to eat.

For the next edition of Miércoles Calientes at Tomatito, I’ll be doing a guest shift with dishes from Malaysia, where I'm from. It’s a small taste of home, but one I'm excited to share with you!

Also, huge thank you to Chef Koen & Tomatito for inviting me to share the kitchen!
Malaysian Pop-Up Dinner Menu

Crispy Pork Belly (¥80) – Five-spice roasted pork belly served with whole grain mustard.

Vinegar Pork Trotters (¥60) – Pork trotters and pork shoulder stewed low and slow in vinegar, ginger, garlic, and chilies until tender, served over potatoes. (It’s traditionally eaten with rice, but let’s change it up.)

Bitter Gourd Fries (¥35) – Bitter gourd seasoned with curry powder and deep-fried.

Grilled Mackerel (¥50) – Grilled mackerel fillet served with belacan, shrimp paste chili sauce.

Belacan Fried Chicken (¥50) – Chicken marinated in shrimp paste and soya sauce overnight, battered and deep-fried.

Nasi Lemak (¥90)
Nasi Lemak is Malaysia’s national dish. It is the Breakfast of Champions! (Yes, we eat this for breakfast!) It’s jasmine rice cooked in coconut milk, served with fried chicken (same as above), sambal belacan, hard boiled eggs, cucumber, roasted peanuts, and fried anchovies.
For dessert, it's Banana Fritters (¥40) with vanilla ice cream.
Tomatito’s regular menu will also be available.

Drinks Situation
For drinks, there's specials on Shanghai’s Witchcraft Brewery beers. A light, hoppy, easy-drinking Session IPA and a malty, bitter-sweet Amber Ale, both ¥35 a glass.
Plus, buy-one-get-one Estrella draft and G&Ts.
